The Department of Culture and Communications, together with the Underwater Preservation Group, has dedicated the “Phips Wreck” as the best-preserved and most important discovery in our history. With the sinking of Admiral Hovenden Walker’s fleet in 1711, near Pointe-aux-Anglais, and the sinking of the Corossol ship in Sept-Îles in 1693, this discovery confirms that the North Shore possesses on its shoreline the three wrecks the oldest in the history of the new world.
