Many tests have been performed in order to elaborate rescue systems for shipwreck victims on the North Coast of the St. Lawrence River. Specialized equipments, organisms dedicated to life salvage and a series of lighthouses along the coasts have greatly improved the navigation security on the River, but danger is still present.
Salvage, which is the gathering of shipwreck remains, is an industry in which many people have taken part, either legally or illegally. As soon as crew members have been rescued, other crews help in safely bringing the ship to port or, if the worst happens, to gather all they can before the River swallows it all.
